LEGO Friends Olivia's House 3315.(lego)

Amazing set, January 11, 2012
By Wm19 (Canada)
This is an amazing set. Essentially, it's a dollhouse with 4 fully furnished rooms and an extensive front yard. Thankfully, it's a modular build, so you only need to build the legos in bag 1 first, then move on to the legos in bag 2, all the way through to bag 7. (Imagine going through all 695 pieces looking for the one piece described in the instructions!) Lego's anthropological research revealed that girls like to play as they're assembling their legos, so Lego made the Lego Friends into modular builds. Assembly is straightforward.

The house is mostly tan, white and lime, with pink roof pieces and some pink accent pieces. There are many, many accessories, which was delightful. I read that some Lego developers asked why the anthropological research found that girls wanted more accessories, like handbags, combs, etc., and in response, the researchers asked why boys needed a sword, dagger, shield, etc. (In the Ninjago Booster bonus set I got recently, a minifigurine came with 9 assorted weapons...). See the great article in Bloomsberg Businessweek on Lego's business strategy in targeting first boys, then girls, with their themed sets: [...]

The best review I've seen of this set is at Eurobricks[...]. You have to check out this review. It shows every brick included and goes into great detail on the furniture and rooms, so I won't go into the details.

Basically, this is an awesome set, and you can play at this for hours. As I wander around the girls' section at Toys R Us, I am vaguely repulsed by the aisles of pink barbies, skinny teenager dolls, pink dress up princess clothes, plastic kitchens and food, and fake taking-care-of-baby dolls and accessories. In comparison, the Lego Friends sets are much more creative and imaginative. Unlike the static dollhouses with the pre-printed furniture on the walls and static dolls (I saw several that were selling for $149 for boring, big, static dollhouses for barbie-sized dolls), this Lego set (much cheaper) can be taken apart, put together in different ways, rearranged, and I found myself reaching for my regular Lego blocks to put together new furniture and outdoor pieces. You can customize the minifigurines with the hair pieces and accessories from other minifigurines.

There are a few accessories that don't "snap" into place, like the cupcakes, hot dog, apple, cherries, lawnmower - but most of them do, and they're great. The figurines don't snap into a sitting position, but they do snap into a standing position. I actually like the minifigurines, they make the old ones look very blocky. If there's anything you don't like, you can take it apart, rearrange it, and even order new individual lego blocks from the lego.com pick a brick website.

I was very impressed by the creative use of the same lego elements - little 1x1 round pieces can be flowers, blender tops, lawnmower wheels, cupcakes, bushes and flowers, plant holders, doorknobs, lighting fixtures, shaker tops, bedding, lights, etc. Anyway, you get the point - just an ingenious use of common Lego elements. There's no stinting of legos here, the house is fully accessorized, fully furnished, and even outside the house, the landscape is very busy and fun.

The rooms can be put into different configurations, so they're not very solidly connected. You can easily change this by removing the smaller smooth pegged pieces and attaching them with the exposed regular lego pieces.

I know there is controversy among adults who don't like the fact that Lego is targeting girls with these themed sets, and insist that girls and boys should all play from the same basic Lego blocks like they did in the good old days (like the 1970's). Sure, Duplo is targeted towards boys and girls, and there are basic Lego building sets available, but from age 4/5 onwards, Lego deliberately targets boys with themed sets such as Alien Conquest (salvage crew fighting evil Atlantean minions), Pharoah Quest (archaeologist fighting evil Egyptian monsters), City (cops fighting evil robbers, firefighters fighting fires), Ninjago (ninjas fighting evil lord and skeletons), Hero Factory, Racers, Star Wars, etc. The Bloomsberg Businessweek article notes that since 2005, when Lego deliberately focused on the market for boys (after years of anthropological research on how boys play) to revive its brand, Lego has doubled its revenue and is now the hottest toy company in the boy segment. Just as there is a princess phase for girls, now people talk about a Lego phase for boys. Yet nobody seems to be complaining that Lego is deliberately targeting boys with gendered stereotypes of violence, monsters, fighting, conflict, competition, cars/ships/airplanes/boats, and weapons. In contrast, after four years of anthropological research on how girls play, the Lego Friends themed sets focus on cooperation between the main characters and is newly launched.

If you just want the lego experience, or have kids who like lego, or are thinking about buying a dollhouse for your child, this is the set to get. Like they say in the Bloomsberg article, Lego is known for developing "spatial, mathematical, and fine motor skills, and lets kids build almost anything they can imagine, often leading to hours of quiet, independent play."

There will be a summer release for further sets, and even an Advent Calendar for the holidays. If kids want to play with the Lego Friends sets, at least they're using their imagination and playing with Lego blocks. So don't be afraid of trying the Lego Friend sets out because of controversy by adults online. Try it out, and if you or your kids like it, just enjoy it.

My girls LOVE these legos!!, February 8, 2012
By Eileen
My just-turned 7 year old daughter started being interested in legos earlier in this school year. So she received the Spongebob sets for Christmas because these were the only more gender-neutral of the sets in the market (and the only ones she wanted because, as she explained, they weren't too boyish). She enjoyed making those, but not nearly as much as these Friends sets that she received for her birthday! She got the cafe, Olivia's house, the car, vet, and pet car, and has almost finished every set that she received less than a week ago. Even her older sister who is 10 and usually doesn't want to play with with her, and her sister's toys, sat down with her and helped her build for an hour or so and then dove in again immediately after school yesterday with her. They love building the tv, and couch, and marvel at how different furniture swivels. They have proudly shown their friends what they have built and constantly want me to see their accomplishments.

For those who think this is a sexist toy, think again. There is a vet that the female characters operate, an inventor's studio, musician studio and more. The colors are "girlie" mainly consisting of beiges, pinks, and reds. But I think the toys turn out great looking with that pallette.

Bottom line, is that my girls are getting the math, patience, direction following, problem solving, following through on a project from beginning to end, experience that boys have been getting for years with legos. We hope Lego expands on this series because we're already close to being done!!

LEGO Star Wars AT-RT 75002.(lego)

lego
Excellent value, January 3, 2013
By John  -
For the MSRP of $19.99, you get:
A 501st Clone Trooper with rifle (new color scheme), Yoda with green lightsaber (new sculpt), Commando Droid with rifle (new color scheme), a Sniper Droideka, and a redesigned 'walker.

The AT-RT has a few minor flaws.
1) Unlike the AT-ST (7127), it cannot swivel. The torso is static and does not turn, which hinders the playability of this new rendition of a classic design. If you own the Clone Scout Walker (7250), this is identical in fundamentals, with just a couple of different pieces for aesthetics (bigger front plate for instance).
2) The 2 radio antennas in the back are not secured and frequently falls off.

On the plus side, the stickers are top notch transparent pieces of vinyl - better than the paper decals for Headhunter (75004), which I just reviewed.

The Sniper Droideka is also a nice addition. Of all the recent destroyer droids, this one most closely resembles the film version, with the sphere back.

Great set for the value. 3 Minifigs, 1 brick Minifig, and a small sturdy vehicle that should take anywhere between 10 - 20 minutes to build.

Very detailed model! A must have, January 22, 2014
By AbraCadavre13
I had the original ROTS AT-RT back in the day and absolutely loved it. I feel Clone Wars 501st AT-RT builds (no pun intended) on what the old one did right and makes it better in every way. The Walker is a beautiful replica of the Clone Wars version. It really adds to any Grand Army of the Republic you are currently building. Unfortunately, Legos don't clone quite like people. The minifigs are top notch. I love the Phase 2 troopers and the Clone Wars Yoda is very nicely detailed. Lego has yet to get the Droideka (this is the sniper version) quite right, but nonetheless, it still looks magnificent alongside my droid army. The Commando Droid is also a very nice addition to my collection. This set is a definite must have! I recommend it to people of all ages who love Star Wars as much as I do.

Friends Dolphin Cruiser.(LEGO)

lego,
A Big and Impressive LEGO Friends Luxury Boat!, August 17, 2013
By Dre -
Our daughter loves LEGO Friends. She first saw them at a friends house and was instantly obsessed with them. We purchased the "Olivia's Tree House" Set for her for Christmas and it was a big hit. Since then, we have purchased several additional sets for her collection.

The LEGO Friends Dolphin Cruiser Play Set comes with a big 612 pieces. It includes two girl characters (Mia and Maya) and one boy character (Andrew). It comes with everything you could imagine for a boat trip. It has large yacht type boat that has a top that lifts off so you can play with your characters in the inside living areas (living room with an L-shaped couch, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with two beds). The boat has several features like deck chairs, a water slide, a captains area on the top for driving the boat and a wave runner with a ski rope and skis for the characters to use. It also comes with lots of little accessories for drinks and snacks, music equipment, two dolphins and some fish to feed to them. It is a really nice and big set with a lot of playability and plenty of pieces to let your child's imagination run wild. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow and the recommended age is 7-12 because it is such a large set, but a 6 year old will only need minimal help with it.

One point of caution, the MSRP on the LEGO web site for this set is $69.99. If a set isn't Retired, you shouldn't have to pay much more than the MSRP. That is the going rate from WalMart/Target/LEGO and usually when Amazon is the seller. Some secondary Amazon retailers sell the Friends sets for much more so be careful if the seller isn't Amazon, especially around the holidays when Amazon sometimes sells out. Make sure to shop around. We picked it up when the price dropped to $50.99 on Amazon. You can check the Amazon price history and set price drop alerts on camelcamelcamel dot com.

Long story short, this is a huge and fun set that will be a great addition to your LEGO Friends collection. It looks really impressive when it is built and it is designed really well to allow for a lot of pretend play. While this is one of the more expensive LEGO Friends sets, the 11 cent per piece price is right in-line with the average for other multi-character sets. Highly Recommended!

LEGO DUPLO Number Train 10558 .(lego)

Wonderful starter Duplo set, Great Price, wide wheels not the best for track, January 15, 2013
By R. Ferguson (Earth) :
Nut-job Lego-loving parent here. Ignore my star rating. I don't get free Lego for these reviews...

Lego's Duplo trains are great. They are big enough that little kids can manipulate them easily. Since they are made of blocks, kids can create their own engine and car designs AND use the same blocks to build towns, etc. We have lots of different trains in our house and I can tell you that the Duplo trains have been the most flexible and long-lived for the early age bracket. Duplo has an earlier age-safety limit (2 years) versus many of the wooden trains (that start at 3), yet the building flexibility of Lego means that the system remains interesting even as kids move out of the recommended age range.

This train features number blocks (in ROYGBIV order), a simple steam engine, a single Duplo boy-figure and a dog. The cars connect to each other with simple hitches. Lego uses the same hitches for its Duplo trucks and tractors, so these cars can do double duty. One caveat about this train is that it uses the wide train wheels. These are very durable, but if you were thinking of purchasing track and building out a Duplo train set, these wheels are wider than Duplo's proper train wheels. These operate okay on straights and curves, but they are too wide for Duplo switches, bridges, and level crossings.

In August 2013, Lego releases two new Duplo train sets: 10508 Deluxe Trains Set (a motorized engine, two freight cars, a bridge and figure-8 of track for $110) and 10507 My First Trains Set (a motorized steam-train with one passenger car and a circle of track for $45). While I very much like these larger sets, the Number Train is hard to beat at $20.

Cheers

Possibly my favorite Duplo yet!, May 14, 2013
By Alizabeth Szilagyi :
My son loves trains, so when Grandma and Grandpa gave him this I knew it would be a hit. We also have the baby zoo ville, and we immediately made this a zoo train. I loved watching my boy pull his "animal train" around the house. One word of advice, you (the child rather) cannot carry this train around the house. Because there are so many duplo cars, the cars in the middle will become detached. This is nothing to complain about, my son just kept picking it up to put on new surfaces and we had to reconnect it each time.

I love the number blocks as well. This is practically a two for one. We will use the number blocks to try and understand quantity. Stacking one block with the #1, two blocks with the #2, etc and so forth.

This set works well on its own, or as you can tell by my review, it works fabulously paired with other duplo sets.

We have about seven different duplo sets and this is quite possibly my favorite. I'd recommend this one, the zoo set (full or baby ville size) and the pale of 71 pieces. Between these three sets you have hours of various building structures and lots of creative play.

Super Fun!, October 30, 2013
By millekas:
My son LOVES this train when he's not walking around his train table! The train is compatable with other Duplo Legos and can be used for multiple purposes! I enjoy the numbers on the blocks to help him learn too! We've made different structures and cars with all of these blocks! The possibilties are endless...my only complaint is regarding the engine compartment...it's difficult to get the little people lined up appropriately to fit in the compartment.

LEGO Minecraft, Micro World 21102 .(lego)

Minecraft and LEGO - a Perfect Match!, July 21, 2012
By K. Groh (Pennsylvania) :
Who knew that two things could come together so perfectly!

My 13 year old son has loved building with LEGOs since, well, forever. He became infatuated with Minecraft over a year ago. When he heard that Minecraft and LEGO worked to create a Minecraft specific set, he was thrilled.
The set is neat. You build four blocks which can then be combined by using connectors. Really, you can build whatever you want. It has hidden chambers, two micro mini-figs (Steve and Creeper). It is mostly the smallest of LEGO pieces and does come with some extras (not a lot though).

It is more expensive per piece (and size of piece) than a lot of LEGO sets but sometimes, it's okay to spend a little more for the things that make our kids really happy. And this does just that.
There are now two other sets: LEGO Minecraft The Village 21105 and LEGO Minecraft The Nether 21106 that I think look pretty cool and may make a great Christmas gift for my daughter...
When you compare this set to the smaller architecture sets, it is comparable in price.

****UPDATE**** 4/6/2013
I just happened to stumble back to this review a couple of days ago and noticed that for a brief window, Amazon was carrying it in their warehouse (not through a reseller or fulfillment center) at $34.95. That was a great price. So I ordered another set for my daughter for her upcoming birthday. Unfortunately, it is back to being sold at much higher prices by resellers. The lesson learned, if you are looking for this set, keep checking back since it is evidently in production and sometimes available at list price through Amazon.

Additionally, I had a buyer inform me that LEGO's website is now carrying it at the $34.99 price (plus shipping). I just went to confirm this and also see that they have a two per order limit.

LEGO 21103 The DeLorean Time Machine Building Set .(lego)

Going Back in Time!, December 28, 2013
By Penelope D. (Seattle, WA USA) :
This is one of the few LEGO CUUSOO sets developed so far--it's a set that a LEGO-lovers forum voted on to be made, so I knew before I saw it put together that it would be pretty cool. The mister is a huge Back to the Future fan, so I got this for him for Christmas and he was really excited to open it and has already gotten lots of comments on it from friends.

The Marty McFly minifigure is a highlight of the set, as well as the opening DeLorean doors and flip-able tires (you know, for when you go somewhere where you don't need roads). The car can be modified to mirror the car in each of the movies, including corresponding license plates.

I was really impressed with the box the set came in. It's not a typical LEGO box, but one that is sturdy and reusable for keeping your set pieces together. The building instruction book is bound, not stapled together, and has information at the front about the set and CUUSOO. All in all, this is packaged in a way that is much nicer and collectible in the long run. Needless to say, this set is going to the mister's office and not being added to the kids' LEGO collection.

Great Scott! This set is ready for 88 MPH!, August 1, 2013
By Nancy :
The time machine needs to be rebuilt... 401 pieces to assemble to get back to 1985. It's got so many custom pieces, including a "flux capacitor," a time travel dash display reading 1958 (a reference to when the first Lego bricks were built), and a personalized California license plate that reads... OUTATIME. Mr. Fusion will supply you with the power to go Back To The Future! We just need to get the set and get building. If you want the official Lego Delorean, with the wing doors and fold-up wheels, this is the one to get. Including 2 minifigs, both Marty McFly and Doc Brown are ready for adventure!

Great kit!, January 15, 2014
By -=Rudy=- (SCS By The Lake, MI/USA):
It took us a bit of work to assemble the DeLorean, but aside from one missing piece (which I had to borrow from another set), everything went together well. One neat thing about this kit is that there are extra pieces so that you can construct the different versions of the DeLorean. The 1955 version has the contraption on the hood, the 2015 version has a set of red wheels and even a replacement license plate which is a barcode, along with a Mr. Fusion for the top. These small details made the kit a lot more fun to work with. It is somewhat challenging to put together but is not difficult. Recommended!

LEGO Bricks & More Builders of Tomorrow Set 6177 .(lego)

What a fantastic set!, January 27, 2011
By jeninmaine (Maine, USA) :
I was skeptical at first since this is just a set of bricks - no special doo-dads or mini-figures, just a bunch of bricks in a box. My seven-year old son has a few specialty sets of Star Wars and Indiana Jones Legos that he keeps in his room away from his little sister so I purchased this set for the living room where the communal toys are kept. I bought one of the Iris project bins to go with it (which comes with a base plate, thank goodness).

My only criticism is that this set has no base plate. Boo. Other than that, though, it is a great value for a great set of bricks. It's back to basics - 1x1s, 1x2s, 2x2s, 2x3s, and 2x4s in a variety of really nice colors. I especially liked the lime green and the bright orange. I was worried that my son in particular would find the lack of specialty bits made the set boring, but on the contrary the two of them will sit together and play very happily. There are enough bricks that they don't have to fight over who has what. I especially like that there are lots of 1x1 bricks - as a child I never felt that I had enough of these and they're so versatile (and cute!). I realize that the recommended age for this toy is 5 years and I let my daughter who is almost three play with it, but the nice thing about it is I get down on the floor with her so supervision is playtime for both of us. I think it's great that even in this digital age something as classic and timeless as Legos can still draw kids' attention.

They still hurt just as much to step on, though, so I'd like to re-recommend that Iris storage bin. You'll thank me for it.

Great supplemental set for adding to a basic brick set, August 8, 2012
By D. Diamond (Houston, TX USA) :
My son is 4 and recently graduated from Duplo blocks to "big boy" Legos, and we bought this set to supplement a basic brick starter bucket set. Right now, we really like the open ended play that he gets from building with basic brick pieces. He makes all kinds of buildings, objects, animals, etc. I'm in my 40s, and was an avid Lego builder when I was a kid, and we didn't have much more than basic brick sets to pick from for a very long time. The new specialty play sets are cool, but for right now, we like the creative exploration that basic bricks offer.

This set provides a nice variety of colors and sizes to build lots of different things of varying sizes. Also, all the bricks could be contained in the basic brick starter bucket that we already had, so that makes storage easy.

You can't go wrong with a basic brick supplemental set like this. It is nice to have the volume of pieces available to build anything you can imagine and you will always be able to get use out of them. We also bought the Bricks and More Fun With Vehicles Set 4635. With the added specialty vehicle pieces that set contained, my son has enjoyed hours of play...and so have we!

A good addition to an existing collection, December 21, 2010
By I. P. White:
I bought this as a "starter" set for my kids, but it works better as an addition to your existing collection of Legos. Lots of 1x1 and 1x2 pieces, and not enough of the bigger 2x8 pieces that are my favorites. However, Legos are awesome toys no matter what sizes, so the kids still have enough fun with this set until additional pieces arrive. Legos are worth the money, since they will last forever, and can be used by your kids, then grandkids, and then probably even your grandkid's kids.

LEGO Ultimate Building Set - 405 Pieces .(lego)

Toy dollars well spent, March 24, 2008
By Rocco (North TX) :
No they are not cheap. No the box isn't full to even half capacity. But these toys are still around for a reason: they rock. More specifically, they are indestructible, offer immense replay value, encourage creative quiet and thoughtful play, promote fine motor skill development, and they are just plain fun.

Think about the countless cheap $3.99 and $4.99 soft plastic throw away toys you've bought over the years: invariably imported and with unknown lead content, cost pennies to make, including the polly pockets, fairies, mermaids, bratz, little ponies, strawberry shortcakes, littlest petz, etc. All of those toys are very restrictive in the type of play they permit, fall apart, and lose your child's interest after a few days.. until you buy another worthless set for their next "fix."

In the case of legos i would argue that if you just refrain from buying those cheap blister packed toys for a few months you will have saved more than enough to get this or another "flexible" set of legos. I don't care for the elaborate lego sets that have you follow intricate instructions to build a pirate ship, or harry potters house, or a star wars backdrop, etc. Those are just as restrictive and inflexible in their play.

So get this set or something similar as soon as you are sure your kid won't choke on a brick. It is something they will play with now and in the future. You'll beat inflation, you'll have it for future kids you might have, or those who might visit, and it will always have excellent resale value on e_bay.

As for the merits and value of this particular set, i think it is fairly reasonable relative to prices for used, bulk collections you might get on an auction website, or compared to the more expensive, larger, thematic sets - such as the "townhouse", lunar lander, or whatever. It has 4 wheels, 2 axles, 1 figure (a mechanic dude), a set of mini tools for the figure, 1 door, 2 windows, some clear pieces for windshields or windows, a propellor/windmill piece, a radiator grille, a cute mini steering wheel, and assorted bricks including some long ones. The base unfortunately isn't even standard height, but sort of a cheap 1/5 or 1/4 height. So that's a little lame. So it isn't perfect but i can't find a better variety pack for the price. Although the Lego 4+ Basic Bulk Set might be a good second set to consider.

We got this set to augment the pink little girls set with the jump rope on the box. Together they are a reasonable set but its still a small collection. I would contend that similar to the defense department maintaining an army that can fight a war in 2 theatres at once, you should have enough legos to build 2 houses at once. That is unless you have more than 2 kids...

We love it, February 10, 2008
By C. Kaufman "Mom of 2" :
We love this kit. My 4 year old plays with it for hours and makes all sorts of interesting vehicles and machines. We honestly never have noticed a lack of base plates as some reviewers noted. The other complaint was the lack of fullness for the box. I admit we felt the same for about 5 minutes until we realized we finally had a great place to store all the other small sets of lego we had accumulated. I think Lego was smart to allow extra space. Anyway, people should lighten up and let the kids just play. I know we all loved lego growing up, but are the kids disappointed, or just the parents?

Awesome set, December 13, 2011
By D in MN "Daiper changing Dad" (midwest):
I was looking for a large set of legos that my 5 year old son could use his imagination with. He loves building all sorts of things with this set, houses, spaceships, castles, whatever... He's always asking me to build with him so I get to enjoy it too. This set comes with some basic instructions with examples and some nice extras like a building plate, mini-figures, windows, doors and wheels.

LEGO Green Building Plate-(lego)

Essential for Lego Builders, July 26, 2000
By Deborah A. Woehr (San Jose, CA USA)

My son has at least four of these boards, and he uses them all the time. I agree with the reviewer from Virginia that these should be included with every major set because the Legos do fall apart when they have to be transported from one place to another. I also think the boards are somewhat expensive, but at least they're sturdy and you can connect them with Lego blocks to build bigger scenes.

The green plate..., December 28, 2005
By Michael E. Rudd (Fayetteville, NC)

...is great and all, and every LEGO enthusiast should have at least one (in addition to the gray plate). I gave a markdown for durability because it is a bit weak and flexible. If you're not careful with it (bend too much) it is liable to break easy, so I agree with an earlier post that it should be made a little thicker.
As for all the squabbling in a majority of these posts...this is not a discussion board, it is a review board. And the arguements are rediculous (such as what color is better or the difference in size) for this being a simple green plate.
All-in-all however, I recommend this plate to anyone that needs its size and color, because you won't always be building on the included baseplates with the sets (my friends and I always built our own forts and houses and stuff).

Very useful, May 23, 2006
By Felis "Felistorm" (Tecumseh, OK)

I would say that while I think 7 bucks is a bit much my son has had constant play using this and has definitally put 7 bucks worth of use into it I think. I do agree that they should be included and I also would like to find one of the lego tables although someones suggestion of fixing them to a board or something might just be an idea. My son has used them to build hotels on or even makes his own "game grid" or mazes or even maps. He is 7 and I have to say he loves this thing and I plan on maybe getting him another. I nearly forgot to add that while some people have seen durability problems we haven't. It has even been stepped on by his older sister and while it left a faded green mark it did not bend it or anything. It has been very durable for us.

LEGO Minecraft The Nether 21106.(lego)

Lego Minecraft - a great combination, September 9, 2013
By FreeSpirit

This "micro" set is a great combination of Lego and Minecraft. It's different from regular Lego sets, it has mostly simple 1x1s and is a much smaller set once assembled (the box is only 3" in length, width, and depth). We bought the Nether and the Village - both sets are great. You can customize modules once constructed, this gives great flexibility with the set. The sets are simple yet don't feel as repetitive as some other Lego sets. Once constructed, the modules are remarkably stable given the smaller frame.

It would be great to have the entire collection, but at $35 a set, it adds up to be quite expensive. Price and availability of these sets seems to be varying quite a bit. I did a fair amount if research and it seems $33-$37 is the range in which these sets typically sell. If they are out of stock, they come back in stock pretty quick, so it might be better to wait for stock rather than pay higher prices (I have seen these selling for as much as $60!).

Great Lego Micro Kit, December 17, 2013
By Nightingales (Atlanta, GA)

I love this kit and want to try to address some of the negative reviews here - they all seem to be from people who complain it is too small and too expensive. First of all, this is a Lego MICRO set. Micros are a new type of Lego that is way smaller (in scale) than the regular Lego's. So you have Lego Duplo - Lego - Lego Micro in that size order. When I order a regular Lego set, I don't complain that I didn't get a box as big as the Lego Duplo blocks!
Also, as a Micro set, they rate it for kids 10 years and older. Don't buy this for your 5 year old and then complain that its too tough for him/her!
Secondly, this contains 400 pieces. That is more than the regular Lego boxes priced around $40 contain (280 pieces in example). I think its clear that the price goes mainly with the quantity of the pieces, not with the size of the pieces.
I expected a tiny miniature kit that would recreate the Minecraft world and be a bit challenging to put together for my son and me. And I feel I got exactly what I had hoped for!

Nice Addition to the Lego MineCraft Series, October 3, 2013

These are nice little Lego sets for any MineCraft enthusiast. Be warned that these are micro Lego sets, meaning all the blocks are the tiniest that Lego makes. These almost lose a star because of how small they are versus their price, but it is what it is. My son really likes them -- he likes the Village a little more than the Nether if you have to make a decision between the two.

Love it, September 30, 2013

Both my young kids really love this. There are many very tiny parts, so it has been a challenge to keep it all together. However, it's a nice tradeoff to have the kids play with this instead of always on the computer... works their imagination in different ways.
